Backup failed for MSCS LUN_File System Corruption Error
We have been getting the following error for one of the LUNs allocated to Win 2003 cluster.
Event ID 55 : Ntfs
The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and usable. Please run chkdsk utility on the volume
Whenever it occurs, Networker fails to backup data from that LUN with the following message.
File could not be opened and was not backed up. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
I don't think this is a hardware or data related problem as it is sporadic and sometimes affects more than one LUN.
We already ran chkdsk and it came back clean.
Now looking into http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932578 but i am not sure if that is relavant.
Has anyone seen this type of errors ?

We first noticed this issue the day we did our latest Networker upgrade (from 7.3.3 to 7.5.1.4). Prior to the upgrade we didn't have this problem.
After a months of troubleshooting with EMC & Microsoft, we've determined this to be a Networker issue. Per EMC, the newer version relies on MS VSS servcie to backup data, which is currently not running on our servers.
I disabled VSS from Networker (VSS=*off) and last night's backup ran fine without any NTFS corruption errors. However Networker couldn't backup few files that were being used (open).
EMC's recommendation is to enable VSS on the servers and then install the MS patch.

Questions :
[1] Do i also need the following hotfixes ? Currently we are running disk based backup for our clustered file servers (3 win 2003 -64 bit) using Networker and each server has 800 GB of SAN space allocated for user and share data.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951568http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833167We have configured our files servers as Networker storage nodes.
[2] I woud like to point shadow copies to a different drive (LUN). What are the size and configuration requirements for the shadow storage volumes in MSCS ?
[3] Has anyone seen this type of error after upgrading NW to 7.4.2 or later ?
Thanks in advance...
