Could be multiple things; I would suggest to disable new auth on server side and revert back to old one unless you are using new one with purpose.

I have also for 90% of my legato clients as a reason for failed backup the following message:

1 retry attempted
savepnpc: RPC error: Authentication failed or no valid authentication methods supported by both client and server
savepnpc: Cannot open savepnpc session with rpblegato1srv.rompetrol.org
: Failed with error(s)

As I said, try to disable auth on server side.

Do forum search for nsrauth and you will find exact steps in one of the existing threads. It has been discussed recently too.

What do you mean by "disable auth"? How do you do that?

This morning I had the same messages for all the clients from one server. What I found out was that there were some hang process on the machine. I stopped the software, killed all the nsrindex and nsrmmd there were hang. Removed the tmp directory. Then I restarted the software and it is working normally.
Hope it helps.
Regards.
