backup system state

Hello,

We use Networker 7.3.3. When we try to backup system state, system db and system files, we get error in log file:

1 retry attempted
save: SYSTEM STATE:\ is a legacy SYSTEM save set name and is invalid as a VSS SYSTEM save set name. VSS is currently enabled, so a VSS SYSTEM save set name must be use

We have VSS enabled. In saveset field we have specified:
SYSTEM STATE:\
SYSTEM DB:\
SYSTEM FILES:\

Should we put VSS before SYSTEM STATE:\ like:

VSS SYSTEM STATE:\

Yes, you could put this for the backup save set:

VSS ASR DISK:\
VSS OTHER:\
VSS SYSTEM BOOT:\
VSS SYSTEM FILESET:\
VSS SYSTEM SERVICES:\
VSS USER DATA:\

Or better yet since you have VSS enabled, for the backup save set put this:

All

Hello,

I tried to put VSS before SYSTEM STATE:\ and backup of system state failed again. I got next message:

1 retry attempted
No full backups of this save set were found in the media database; performing a full backup
save: VSS SYSTEM STATE:\: No such file or directory

Yes, I can put All in the saveset field, but I don`t want to backup all data. What to do??

There's no VSS SYSTEM STATE saveset, you have to use those savesets listed above.

If you dont want to backup "All" as the Saveset on Windows 2003 then this is how SYSTEM STATE (I mean all SYSTEM Data necessary for recover) must be listed:

VSS ASR DISK:\
VSS OTHER:\
VSS SYSTEM BOOT:\
VSS SYSTEM FILESET:\
VSS SYSTEM SERVICES:\
VSS USER DATA:\

This as you have attempted: "VSS SYSTEM STATE:\ " is for Windows 2000 not 2003.
