I'm not sure if in this case error code 14 is the same as unknown error 14, but if so it indicates problems with storage/memory. Further, error 0x8007000e which is reported by EXCH module indicates an out-of-memory condition.
You may wish to inspect the performance of the box (run perfmon on memory usage) during the PF backup just to exclude this as possibility.
Check also for event ids that may be recorded during the backup operarion or replication of PF.
