Yes - alias is alias - it point to something that is the same value for itself and its pointer.

Hi Rami,

can you give some more details about the cluster that is already a ressource in Networker? Is the server you want to backup one of the physical nodes of the cluster? Did you try to remove the alias from the cluster client resource and create the new client?

best regards.

Rami, I can see that you set thread to answered, but it is not cleared if your question is answered really or not. If yes, please mark answer with correct (dk's) as that is how this forum is supposed to work.

The problem you have is that client you are trying to create is already defined as alias. It also indicated that your have wrong configuration because at logical level (which you use in NW) you should not mix physical and virtual clients - thus those can't be alias to each other.

Hi Crvelin,

well, upto my knowledge is that in my cluster case, the backup form the Nw server should be started in a group containing only the fpclu. so, it will take care of backing up the active node fp1. so whenever iam removing the apps-srvr from fpclu aliases, it dont backup and giives the error i mentioned to dk. thx

fpclu should backup only data belonging to fplcu. fp1 should backup data belonging to fp1 and fp2 should backup data belonging to fp2. Aliases for fpclu should only be entered for fpclu. Same goes for physical clients. People tend to make mistakes with cluster configuration when it comes to NetWorker and ignore the fact there is something called cache too. So your quickest way to resolution would be to open this with support, send log and resources (from that they will see exactly your config) and follow instructions. You probably need to clear cache, check name resolution not point somewhere wrong and reconfigure it and then it will work.

hi,

the cluster is of 2 nodes: fp1 and fp2. fp1 is active and fp2 is passive. the virtual machine is fpclu.

both nodes have NW storage nodes installed.
fpclu is configured as a client on backup-server, but it has in its aliases the apps-srvr. i tried to create the apps server, i couldn't. then i ran the backup and it did backup.
now i removed the apps-srvr from fpclu aliases, and tried to backup fpclu, it gave me errors:
"no matching devices for save of client fpclu, check storage nodes, devices, pools.
save: cannot open session with backup-server.

so, i re-entered the apps-srvr in the aliases of the fpclu, it backed up. but i had to delete the apps-srvr again.

thx

well, what is happening with is that once iam removing the aliases from the fpclu)virtual machine) its not backing up and when iam including the aliases again,it starts the backup.
the backup is written on fp1 which has a LUN on CX300.
N.B: can fp2(passive node) backup it self because its passive.

Why would you remove alias from fpclu for apps-srvr? Or even better question, why would you define apps-srvr if that is alias for fpclu which you already have?

i did that because iam not sure if fpclu will backuo it aliases too. so i decided to try to let apps-srvr behave as an ordinery storage node.
so, here is my question that is confusing me, does fpclu backup its aliases too.
