Cannot Decode Block / The handle is invalid
Hi, can you help me with this problem?
I´m getting 5 erros inside the log:
1 - NetWorker media: (warning) rd=server1:\\.\Tape2 writing: The I/O bus was reset., at file 24 record 17868
2 - NetWorker media: (notice) LTO Ultrium-2 tape File.0005 on rd=server1:\\.\Tape2 is full
3 - NetWorker media: (warning) rd=server1:\\.\Tape2 reading: The handle is invalid.
4 - NetWorker media: (notice) Volume "File.0005" on device "rd=server1:\\.\Tape2": Cannot decode block. Verify the device configuration. Tape positioning by record is disabled.
5 - NetWorker media: (warning) verification of volume "File.0005", volid 1108389955 failed.
Is there something to configure inside Legato NetWorker? Have you ever seen this problem before? What can start this behavior?

I´m getting 5 erros inside the log:
1 - NetWorker media: (warning) rd=server1:\\.\Tape2 writing: The I/O bus was reset., at file 24 record 17868
Warning message - bus reset occured when tape was positioned at file nu,ber and record number outlined in message. Bus reset may happen for various reasons - something bad with hardware or some SAN event.
Volume inside second drive has been marked full. This notice may happen when tape reached its EOT (physical end of tape) or due to an error (like I/O from message 1).
This message belongs to OS or more precisly to the instruction used in code. Not sure what triggers it, but usually you see it when you get issues with drives/tapes.
After I/O error verification of the written block was tried and it failed.
See 4)
The question here is do you see this on regular basis or was it one time only. As it seems bus reset occured during some operation (backup, restore or positioning). The error is most probably due to one of:
- problem tape drive (is so you will see it more for that tape drive)
- problem with bad media
- SAN event (something in zone with your drive caused bus reset which most probably rewinded the drive and did mess up the things).
What Windows OS do you have on that storage node? If 2003 make sure to disable TURs being sent to the SAN. You may also try to load that tape to the same drive and position with mt command to exact file and record number and then check status to see if error will come back again. Also, check logs on Windows box around that time and see if you had any issues (same applies to FC switch).

You can verify a tape by loading it in a tape drive then running scanner without any options.
