5KB is nothing - probably as empty fs which is 4KB usually on UNIX machines. I believe both are specific to win2k3 machines, but top of my head I have no idea what gets inside.
I just checked my environment and I see following:
# mminfo -t '24 hours ago' -av -r name,client,totalsize | grep USER | wc -l
175
Now, out of 175 clients doing this saveset, most of them report totalsize to be 3xx or 4xx bytes. Only 3 clients had different value. I checked one, which is our vCenter host, and it has following:
C:\Windows\Temp\backcomp.1120148665.xml
C:\Windows\Temp\ADAM (VMwareVCMSDS) Writer.1120146462.xml
C:\Windows\Temp\ADAM (VMwareVCMSDS) Writer.1120146462.xml
D:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\VirtualCenter Server\VMwareVCMSDS\adamntds.dit
D:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\VirtualCenter Server\VMwareVCMSDS\
D:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\VirtualCenter Server\VMwareVCMSDS\edb.log
D:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\VirtualCenter Server\VMwareVCMSDS\edb.chk
VSS USER DATA:\ADAM (VMwareVCMSDS) Writer\
VSS USER DATA:\
/
10 objects found
The other two I have no idea top of my head what they are, but I checked them and they contain user profiles - just what would you expect from USER DATA saveset. My bet is that others do not have data which fits those VSS savesets and thus they are empty (bare in mind that USER DATA at least is always done as full backup). Thus, I conclude, the machine which is giving you nothing has nothing to offer so no worries.
