Officially, if there is option to use NDMP, then NFC/CIFS is not supported by support.  Just to make aware

As you are backing up data which belongs to another machine, your save command (backup command) is missing -c and -L parameters.  For -c use name of the machine where share is attached.

The backup exited with return code 5 which would mean that the NetWorker is not able to merge the index of full and incremental for some reason it thinks they belong to different sources or OS. For the incremental backups do you use a separate client configuration or are you using the same client configuration ?

Hello Pavel,

Check logs in C:\Program Files\EMC NetWorker\nsr\logs\sg\FS\386213, if this doesn’t help you try to run backup command from client manually.

Save –s bckserver –l incr –D5 Z:\(sharename)

Hi Pavel,

Have you tried level backup (level 1-9), does it fails?

When you run backup next time add this in the command -D9 (debug mode). It might have more error messages, which will help to troubleshoot better.

Why the merge fails is hard to say it might be thinking of the backup as from 2 different OS. I will go through the D9 output you have sent and suggest further.

Pavel,

Can you try a backup with the save operation as VSS:*=off ?

Can you rename the index folder for this client and try a backup? The exit code did point to have something to do with the index !

From D9 you sent does not say anything else as far as i can see. Do you see anything logged in the servers event viewer ?

Just renamed?  Without restart of backup server?  I would suggest to stop for a moment.  I still suspect what I said in first sentence so... it is pity you renamed it before with nsrinfo or nsrls you could check index, but my suggestion to you is:

1) in backup command of client add save -c -L

2) do full backup

3) do incr backup

And then we can take it from there.
