client not properly configured

All of the sudden I started getting this error when backing up a Windows client. It had been working well for months and none of my other clients are having a problem:

* granta.tridentad.org:ASR:\ 1 retry attempted
* granta.tridentad.org:ASR:\ save: SYSTEM error: client `10.0.131.5' is not properly configured on the NetWorker Server
* granta.tridentad.org:ASR:\ save: Cannot open save session with shrimp
* granta.tridentad.org:SYSTEM DB:\ 1 retry attempted
* granta.tridentad.org:SYSTEM DB:\ save: SYSTEM error: client `10.0.131.5' is not properly configured on the NetWorker Server
* granta.tridentad.org:SYSTEM DB:\ save: Cannot open save session with shrimp
* granta.tridentad.org:SYSTEM STATE:\ 1 retry attempted
* granta.tridentad.org:SYSTEM STATE:\ save: SYSTEM error: client `10.0.131.5' is not properly configured on the NetWorker Server
* granta.tridentad.org:SYSTEM STATE:\ save: Cannot open save session with shrimp
* granta.tridentad.org:C:\ 1 retry attempted
* granta.tridentad.org:C:\ save: SYSTEM error: client `10.0.131.5' is not properly configured on the NetWorker Server
* granta.tridentad.org:C:\ save: Cannot open save session with shrimp

Any ideas?

First I would check event viewer on your client, this could be a Windows problem.
Check the NW service on you client, restart it.
Check you client configurations.
Take a look at your daemon.log at the time of the failure.
Perform a Client initiated backup.

Hi,

"granta.tridentad.org" is contacting "shrimp" during backup from IP 10.0.131.5. "shrimp" doesnt know this client name, as its not configured as a NetWorker Client. If 10.0.x.x represents some internal (cluster) adress, check IP configuration (netmasks, routing).

regards,
Mladen

Put 10.0.131.5 into DNS/etc and then put that name into alias of granta. Assumption is that 10.0.131.5 belongs to this client - if not that you have a problem with resolving from server side.

I checked the IP address one the Client and it is correct, I also put the client in my /etc/hosts file just to be sure.

I then loaded a newer version of networker on the client and tried to run a backup from both the server and the client, neither worked and still gave me the same error.

Did you check ALL IP address that you have on that client? If the mentioned one one of them? If not, go to backup server (and client) and do nslookup for client resource that you use.

There is only one, it is a PC

nslookup granta.tridentad.org
Server: solids.tridentad.org
Address: 10.0.20.30

Name: granta.tridentad.org
Address: 10.0.131.5

Well, it looks like as 10.0.131.5 is not what you get on server or client.

So, if the IP is 10.0.131.5 do following on both client and server:
nslookup 10.0.131.5
nslookup granta
nslookup granta.tridentad.org

Also check hosts on both machines. One of that is playing tricks with you. Quick workaround would be probably to put that IP into alias field of the client definition.

It can ping the client by both the IP and Name and I put it in the /etc/hosts file. As far as I can tell nothing has changed to cause this error. Were is a good place to start looking on the server?

Thanks

I am presuming that shrimp is your backup server and granta is your backup client. 10.0.131.5 is the ip address for granta. Would suggest the following;

1. Ensure that granta and granta.tridentad.org are both mapped to 10.0.131.5 on the backup server.

2. If you still have a problem, the easiest fix is to add 10.0.131.5 in the alias field of your client.

I added the address to the aliases of granta and still no difference. I compared this client to others and there appears to be no difference in the setup.
I have also hard coded the address into my hosts file.

I got it fixed, I had to unistall the client and reinstall it using one of the other cleints as a template.

What did you mean by the statement "one of the other cleints as a template"? I didn't get your statement. kindly reply me at puneetgoyal@hcl.com.
