different install path for networker server re-hosting (new ip/hostname)

hi,

is there a way to move the media db and other resource files to another install path during the rehosting of the networker server? due to some standardization procedures, i need to have it run on a another install path.

thanks

Oh yes, there used to be a bug with that :D (however a fix was done for that I believe). Fixed or not, in case of mmrecov it means you lost everything anyway so putting the things first to default location and then preferred one is not such a big deal I would say. If this was fixed or not in recent versions I have no idea - you should check with support (I know there was an article about it in release notes for earlier 6.x versions).

During the installation you are asked the location. On UNIX you can move things around and just make sure that root /nsr is always linked to it. On Windows you will have to play with registry so the easiest way is uninstall, move nsr directory to new location and then install nw again on top of that (it will use the data found on the location defined).

yes, but the problem is, will those db's and res files be recovered via mmrecov even though their original path has changed?

I would expect the media database to be recovered to your currently configured media db location as it does not recover the files themselves but rather a stream of data representing the data within that database (rather like an Exchange recovery, say). However, I would guess the resource files will be backed up as file and would recover to the original location.

hi,

i've tried to do mmrecov with a different install path for networker. unfortunately, mmrecov terminated. it prompted something like /nsr not found.

given this scenario, i would say that it is not possible to do mmrecov to a different location.

what i think is possible though is to recover the indeces to a mount point similar to the old one and then remount it to the new path. after remounting it to the new path, perform a full index/bootstrap backup with the new location. in this way, the new location will have its backup once it has been fully transferred (that is by way of using mount points in unix).

i'll keep you guys updated with the results of my movements.

Was your test conducted utilizing symbolic link on the system (from old to new path)?
