Differential v.s Incremental
I need some reassurance on a basic NetWorker issue. For many years, I have worked on the basis that successive backups at the same level (typically level 5) results in a differential backup regime.
For example, an initial Full (level 0) followed by 29 x Level 5 backups will result in differential backups for the rest of the month. (i.e. all backups refer back to the date of the full backup). In a DR situation, I will need the Full backup as well as the last Level 5, but not any of the previous Level 5 backups.
I have now been informed that this is incorrect, and that this schedule will actually result in an incremental regime. (i.e. each Level 5 will refer back to the previous Level 5) Thus supposedly, in a DR situation I will need the Full plus ALL the Level 5 backups.
Please assist.
Which viewpoint is correct. ?

If you have environment based on fast drive technology you may also consider weekly full plus incremental.

"Backs up files that have changed since the last backup with a
lower-numbered backup level."
And there a lot of examples which clearly shows it.
