1) Should volume capacity be equal to the total disk capacity ?

If that is what you want - yes. Usually you do. However this is valid just for file device. Advanced file device does not use this option.

2) Will current backup data be lost after changing the mode to appendable?

No.

3) In case of disk how can i permanently change the mode to appendable.

You can't. What you will need to do is stage whole disk volume, modify volume capacity and then relabel the volume.

4) i never saw this problem in case of tape. Is it specific to disk device only.

Tape volume is marked full when it reached the end of tape. With file device you are given opportunity to mark that end as you wish.

Hi Inma,
Thanks for the response.
Yes I tried unmount the disk and then i edited the particular disk device and changed the 'write enabled' attributes to 'Yes' and then mound the disk but instantly it become 'read only'
I am not using the ' adv_file' type. i am using 'File Type' Device.

Any suggestion ?

Since this is file device you might have fixed size of file device - in that case you can't write beyond that point for that specific disk device.

Hi,
Thanks for the response.
I couldn't understand your answer. Can you please elaborate it.
I have removable disk device of size 120 GB. Only 30GB is in use, remaining 90 GB is free. But 'filesytem' volume is showing full.

Thanks

Hermat,

What H is saying is that while you may have free space on the device, it is possible within NetWorker to define a media size that is less than the physically available space.

You need to check ALL the properties of the backup to disk device to ensure that non of the more un-usual settings such as media size are set.

You have either something operating at operating system level - quotering for example or within NetWorker which is enforcing this artificial state of "filesystem full".

It may also be worth checking you licensing - how much back up to disk data have you on the system against the license currently configured within NetWorker.

Hope this helps

Hi IKP,
Thanks for the information.
Can you please let me know how to check media size and how it can be alter.

There is not problem with licensing. I have only one disk device.

The actual problem occurred after the DS. I was trying the Disaster recovery of Backup server. After netwoker recovery I tried the filesystem restore. The restore was successful and machine was up and running then I tried to take a fresh backup. As soon as I started the backup, I noticed that 'filesystem' volume become full and networker is waiting for the files system device.

Any Idea?

Thanks

In device properties under configuration tab you have Volume Default Capacity. You can always change mode to appendable and carry on (in case device is really not filled or there is not I/O error marking it full).
