How can we change nsrwizreg command behavior

Is there a way to configure networker so nsrwizreg command doesn't produce world writable .res.lck files?

-rw-rw-rw-   1 root     other          0 Jan 22 11:08 /nsr/tmp/nsrwizcon.res.lck

-rw-rw-rw-   1 root     other          0 Jan 22 11:08 /nsr/tmp/nsrwizclnt.res.lck

The security team has flag us that they won't tolerate any world writable files in the future on our Solaris systems and that the next time they find those .res.lck files in world writable mode they will act on it as a security incident. And we have no power to argue with them.

Does anyone can help on this one or should I open a Service Request?

Thanks!

Thank you for brining this to our attention Francois!

Can you tell me what version of which database module you are using with it? I suspect NMO 4.5 but it could be a variant of another.

I have traded some details with development and we are looking at what we can do about this. There may be a way for us to address this for you but I do not want to make any promises until I know more.

As soon as I have some details i'll be sure to come back and share with you.

In the meantime I would suggest opening a Support case to ensure this gets the proper attention and tracking it deserves.

Thanks and stay tuned!

Hello Steve,

No we do not use NMO, the only module we use is the one for Exchange and it is not on the Solaris server where those files were found.

Thanks!

Hmmmm, very interesting. We are thinking these are non-issues to NetWorker as we do not use them any more since the 7.4 branch. Can you tell us what version of NetWorker you are running, in case I missed that. This should not be getting used at all as it was for the older wizards that are since gone. I do most certainly recommend you setup a support case to tie this off. It should be easily addressed. Feel free to add my name to the case so I can fill in the blanks with Support.

Cheers!

Steve

Many thanks Steven,

it will be a non issue for us also because we have upgrade to Networker 7.5, 2 weeks ago. My guess is those were relics of the past that security had just recently discovered. So I will open a case if only those files reappear again.
