How to enable Virtualization in 7.5.2

Question

Good Day I'm running 7.5.2 on Windows 2008 server. i have configured my VCB backups to backup as clients and not as a save set via the proxy. this way i can recover a VM save set by selecting the VM client name and not having to browse through each save set to find the client im looking for. I'm having trouble with the new Virtualization feature, I have enabled the virtualization and can succssfully run the auto discovery. However even though auto discovery completes successful, i still cannot see any VM/clients in the Virtualisation window. I checked in the Monitoring>Log tab, i see a Hypervisor notice which shows how many VM have been discovered in my vcenter. can some please tell me how I can view my VM clients in the Virtualization window ? Do I need any extras to have this function working properley ? Regards Umraan

Hi,

I don't really know what could be causing this problem. If you have followed the configuration instructions in the White Paper:

and in the Admin Guide:

EMC NetWorker 7.5 Administration Guide (from page 521):

and you still can't see these VMs, you should open a Service Request with support and someone will have a look at your
configuration in detail to see what could be causing this.

There are known bugs in 7.5.2 running on vcenter.

I contacted EMC support and they advised to install 7.5.1 on the virtual center server and this helped.

Im now able to see all the VM hosts/guests on my entire Network.

Can I run the Virtualization Auto-Discovery anytime during the day or should I wait off hours? This will no do anything like cause VMs to power down?

Hi Jason,

You can run auto-discovery any time, it will not affect any of your VM's

the auto-discovery is a quick process, once it completes, you will be able to see all your VM's guests and hosts on your Network

make sure you have NetWorker version 7.5.1 installed on the vcentre server.
