How to truncate the MS SQL log in schedule backup
Dear All,
After I ran the lab, either Full backup or incremental backup may not truncate the transaction log.
Could you give any ideas to truncate the log in schedule backup?
Thanks in advance.
Dennis

I remember that backup doesn't affect the physical size of the log. If you want to shrink the physical size, you must use some sql database tools to do that.

The log size does not decrease after the backup job completed.
So I post this topic to discuss the backup job will truncate the log or not.

Deafult behavior in NMSQL 5.0 is that log truncation is only enabled with FULL backup. Additionally, NMSQL 5.0 only trucncates logs if the user explicitly specifies log truncation. So by default NMSQL 5.0 does not trucate logs. Therefore NMSQL 5.0 should never disrupt the log shipping environment unless user himself chooses to do log trucation.
So Full backup will not truncate logs by default?
How to specify log truncation? I can not find any thing in administration guide.
Best Regards,
Dennis
