HP Autoloader losing connectivity question

We are running Network 7.5 on a HP Integrity server running Open VMS 8.3 and Networker 7.5.

This is a new installation just going live this past week end 1/23/10.

The drive worked several nights doing our backup but timed out last night as it is writing to the tape.  The Autoloader is SCSI attached and it has the latest firmware installed.

It gets about 82% completed and then times out and keeps re-trying to write to tape.

The LTO3 tapes have a capacity of 400/800GB and the amount of data that gets wrioten to them is less than 100GB.

What assures you that this is Autoloader connectivity problem? Are other backups running fine in the setup? It could be that due to some inactivity the server stops sending data for backups to the backup server and Autoloader.

It seems to stop during a backup and states the tape is full when it

only has used about 60gb of a 400gb tape. It would be done at about

65gb of compressed data.

The amount varies, sometimes it only gets to 30kb and stops.

It looks to us like VMS is not losing connectivity but Networker is.

This is a brand new Integrity system using an Autoloader tape drive from

the old system. The Autoloader tape drive is about 1 year old and is up

to date on all firmware.

We also have an additional autoloader tape drive we have tried and the

results are the same.
