I got this error message " Client name **** is already an alias for client ****.domainname "

Hi there,

I was preparing the yearly backup group to start the backup; when I was creating a client and specifiying the setting such the name, index management and the save sets, then I tried to click on OK to save the things.

I got this error message " Client name **** is already an alias for client ****.domainname "

Thanks in advance

From the KB article - esg58811:

Just be sure to note the clientid before deleting.

Symptom: Error: 'client name (client) is already an alias for client (FQDN)'

Symptom: Error: 'Client alias clientA_name is already the name of client  clientB' Symptom:

NetWorker unable to add a client Symptom: When adding a client he server responds with error

Cause: The clientA name is listed on clientB's resource hence the  conflict.

Fix:

1. Delete clientA and save the clientid

2. Remove clientA from clientB's Aliases list

3. Recreate clientA using the clientid saved from step 1

It sounds as if there is already a client defined with full qualified name.

If you create a second client for the same machine, you have to use the same name. In your case the fqn.

It would be best to use the fqdn as the client rather then getting into deleting clients.
