Well, you could use nsrck to verify how dates are stored in CFI, or also try something like 13/04/2006, if this gives you an error, than the correct format is mm/dd/yyyy, if it works just cancel and then you know that the correct format is dd/mm/yyyy.
Of course there are other ways, but you can try these easy things.
