By default, indexes get written on location specified in Index Path for the client. If Index Path is blank, it creates a client name folder in the index folder of the installation path.
On backup device, they get backed up on the media on which the group was writing. To change this, you can create a pool with save sets "index: and bootstrap", all indexes then get backed up there. In your case, the volume for this pool should be labelled from the LTO3 tapes.
