Installing and Configuring Open File Manager
Hi all,
I am taking backup of my file server using Legato Networker. My management purchased OFM. I need to install and configure it. I have the user guide of OFM. Still I am confused and scared if anything goes wrong then it would be dangerious for me. More than 1200 users are accesing my file server.
Can anyone guide me with the steps how can I install and configure this?
Best rgds,

You need to reboot before configuring anything. OFM will only start after the reboot, and while OFM is not running, control component will not be able to connect to it.
There must be two boxes in my posts (only visible to you), "Helpful" and "Correct". Just click on the option you think is better.
Best Regards,
Daniel

But only to have my backups working, it did never affected the client itself.
I opened some Cases with EMC/StBernard, and I created a guide to install OFM using all possible workarounds provided in those cases, but they may useless now, as there are newer versions avaliable.
Go on and install it accepting default options. You'll have to reboot the client. Then register and do some backups to see how it goes.
Again, never has OFM affected the client itself, but sometimes backups started to fail and I had to go after a fix.
If you're still afraid of it, I can post here the guide I have. But remember, useful for my environment, I don't know about yours

Also, you don't have any configurations on Networker side to use OFM. Once it's installed and running, it will act when any request for backup is started.
Your steps are fine, but I believe you'll need to reboot your client before step 4 of your list. Do step 1 of my list before reboot, it's important. Here is my list of things to do:
1) In the client side, go to Services, and disable "Open File Manager - VSS Provider Services"
2) Reboot client (it's needed to allow you to configure it)
3) Open OFM, connect to the client machine and go to System -> Proprierties:
--> General
- Change "Write Inactivity Period" to 01 second.
- Change "Sync Timeout" to 120 seconds.
- Change "Backup Inactivity Timeout" to 20 minutes.
--> Files
- Click Add and include the following items (select "Include Subdirectories"):
*:\$Extend\*
*:\Documents and Settings\ \Local Setttings\*
*:\DOCUME~1\UUUUUU~1\Local~1\*
*:\NsrCluDb\*
*:\WINDOWS\CLUSTER\*
*:\Program Files\Legato\*
*:\nsr\*
*:\networkr.cfg
*:\NsrDiskQuota.dat
<< For large disks only >>
--> Storage
- Change "Store On" from Default to the disk letter
- For disks larger than 500Gb, change "Initial Size" to 500 MB and "Maximum Size" to 16000 MB
- For other large disks, change "Initial Size" to 500 MB and "Maximum Size" to 2000 MB
4) Reboot
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. Please send me your guidelines. My OFM version is 9.1. It might help me much. What I am going to do as under. Activities must be done after stoping Backup.
1. Installing controll component in a member server( Say backup server - the one where legato networker is installed)
2. Insert serial number and other required parameter.
3. Install system component in the file server (Using controll component server)
4. Insert serial number and other required parameter.
5. Next configure OFM (I do not know how to configure)
Please help.

Thanks a lot. Please tell me how can I assign you points on this support. BTW, OFM client (File server) required a reboot after installing System component, right? or I can reboot client after configuring everything? Please clarify.
Thanks again.
