Is possible backup for one client exist between two NetWorker Servers?

Hi everybody,

I have one doubt. I have two NetWorker servers in my environment, every one with its clients and jukebox.

Can, for example, 'A' client exist in two NetWorker Servers and its backup work fine?

NetWorker server 'X' backups filesystem for 'A' client.
NetWorker server 'Z' backups database for 'A' client.

I know that this configuration works fine, but is it supported?

Can this configuration corrupt 'nsrexecd' daemon belongs to client 'A'?

Thanks.

Ok, if 'A' is a client in both NetWorker servers,
then, this configuration is possible.

But, if 'A' is a Storage Node in 'X' NetWorker
server, but is a client in 'Z' NetWorker server,
could this configuration be possible?

No.

I don't see any problems in doing this. Just make sure that the servers file on your client A contains entries for both backup servers X and Z

You can do that, but in case of Windows clients you should not use journalling in that case.

Hi,

Why would you even populate the servers file. Whilst there are a small number of NetWorker modules that require entries in the servers file, there is normally NO need to populate this file. In fact on a number of recent project where clients have upgraded NetWorker on to new OS versions and hardware, this is one of the points that has been overlooked, even though as a pre-requisite the client has been advised to ensure the file is empty.

For this reason, I take the view that unless required by one of the modules - never populate the servers file.

The point is that if the servers file is populated, you need to make sure that both backup servers are in it. If it is not populated, you shouldn't have a problem.

Never tried it but I don't see why not. Just don't try to make it a storage node on both backup servers. That will have a lot of problems.
