L40 multiple tape drives

Question

Hi We have a StorageTek L40 with 2 LTO tape drives connected to a Redhat Linux ES 4 server with Legato 7.3.1. With only 1 tape drive enabled it works fine, but if we enable the second drive, whenever Legato writes to a tape, it writes 64k, then moves on to the next tape and writes 64k until all the free tapes are used and then says, waiting for writeable tape. We have replaced the drives in the library, but otherwise are stuck as to what the problem is, possibly some Linux driver problem? The robot and 1 tape drive are on one SCSI channel, the second tape is on a different SCSI channel. It doesn't seem to matter which drive is disabled as long as only one drive is active it works any assistance would be appreciated Mike

a) make sure you have stable kernel running with your installationb) make sure you have stinit.def definedc) use 7.3SP3

Thanks for you suggestions, I will patch Linux to the latest patch level and also install the Networker patch as suggested to 7.3SP3, however I cannot find any reliable info on the stinit.def file - especially for LTO devices, does anyone have an example file for HP Ultrium 2 drives?

Usually that should be supplied by tape/library vendor, but you will also find references on Google too.
