Have you try to run save -l 1 ... from the linux box ? Is it results the same behavior - full backup ?

No I have not.

I want to be able to use the NW schedules in the management console so I can perform different level of backup within a said period.

Could you please try to do this to figure out if this is problem with scheduled backup or it is global.

Another idea that cames to my mind is have you try a backup with level different than 1 (2,3,4 ...) ?

Yes, all three clients ( 2x Windows and 1x Linux) are in the same group. and using the same schedules. The windows client backs up as per the schedules but the linux box just ignore all other levels and revert to FULL. And as I mentioned, the linux saveset shows FULL. I have tried, removing the windows clients from the group and backup the just the linux client - same result.

I have tried various level, the Linux backup always revert to FULL. It even says FULL on the savesets.

It is really strange behavior. What about incremental backups ? They are also performed as Full ?

I am using the standard system directives for Unix Compression.

I do not have any entry in the .nsr. I fail to see how this could help. I am trying a very task, all I want is for my backup to run according to my schedule.

i.e. Full Fridays and Diff on remaining days. I did not think this was so hard to achieve.

What about directives and/or ".nsr" file located on filesystem ? Do you use them ?

Schedule can be overwritten by directive :
always: *
which is described in admin guide:
"Always backs up the specified files, independent of the
change time of the file, and ignores the scheduled level.
This ASM can be used to ensure that important client files
that change constantly are always fully backed up. "
Could you please check if there is the same behavior without directive assigned to the client(maybe someone has edited the standard directive without feedback to you) ?
It is a good point to contact EMC support to help you solve the problem.
