Login Query

I have a question here:

We install client using root login on a linux/solaris client. The backups work fine. If we change the root passwords for the client, the backups continue without fail. How does the server send the request to the client and how is it accepted and answered if root passwords have changed?

It is done via the client software they you install on the client. Then an API call is made to the system and it is told what drives and devices you have on the client. No password is sent from the client to the server for it to backup.

If your talking about the admin client talking to the Networker server then you must have 2 accounts and the one you have changed is not the one you ment to. Networker is not intergrated with Active directory and it has to store it's own authentication information.

Now if your talking about the client services and rights then the services account you start it with will have the rights of that account and not thwe rights of the system.

hope this helps.

The Networker client runs under the root account by default; if you change the root password it is still going to start the Networker client - there is no root account data stored in Networker - either for the client or server.
