LTO2 Drives Write Enabled=No

Hi,

We have Networker 7.14 and 8 LTO-2 Drives in a Storagetek L180 Autchanger. Periodically during backups one - sometimes two - drives will switch from Write Enabled = Yes to Write Enabled = No. Doesn't seem to list any errors listed which could cause this. The backups are normal file backups.

Any help greatly recieved.

Thanks, Martin.

Drives get this Write Enabled=No or in Service Mode when there are errors in the drive. The default value for max. consecutive errors is 20. Whenever a drive crosses 20 errors, the drive gets disabled.

Increase the max. consecutive errors for each drive or get them checked by the hardware vendor.

Check daemon.log for mentioned device and before device gets disabled check what was happening. Daemon.log error should give you a clue where to look next (or maybe even what is the source of your problem - sometimes you get that by design when labeling new tapes).
