More slots than license

While going through one of the threads here, I got curious to know why would it be required to reduce the no. of slots if the library has more slots than the slot licenses?

Would it not be that Legato would use the first set of slots i.e. in a 38 slot library with 1-32 slot license, Networker would use slot 1-32 only.

That would be nice if it worked that way, but it does not. Query against the library during the initialization checks for how many slots library is reporting and then it checks that against license.

What you say would be very nice RFE and then after with available slots parameter you define range you wish to use (1-32 or 3-35 or whatever).

It would be really helpful if the library itself could be configured so that only a specific number of slots were enabled. For example, if one were to enable only slots 1-128 in a 256 slot library in its firmware and Networker then sees that library as having only 128 slots instead of having 256, a 1-128 slot license would be accepted.

Hi

This is possible for some kind of libraries; for example, I did it with a L700 Storagetek: you can limit the usable slots to a range, and then Networker can use only a subset of slots, and then the licence is OK.
But this is not very easy to do; Networker licencing is not really "user friendly"...

An other thing: why library licencing is not reprorted by nsrlic command???

Probably no one requested a change and old behavior has been left for ages now. You could post this as RFE to support.

Yes I think it can be usefull to see library licences with nsrlic command.
How can I post a RFE to support?

Just open a regular case (service request) via EMC or partner giving you support and tell them you would like to post RFE. Give them a description of functionality you would like to see implemented and make sure to ask:
a) if such RFE exists and if yes in what status it is
b) to give you LGTpa for this RFE (new or old one)
