Multiplexing is set on the device with the parameters called "Target session" and "Max session". which describes how many streams of data can one backup device take in before sending it to the next device.
Multistreaming can be compared to the parallelism being set on the various parameters - Client, group and server. This describes as to how many streams are generated from a client machine.

Multistreaming must not necessarily lead to multiplexing as each stream could lead to a different piece of media.
On the other hand, multiplexing does not necessarily need multistreaming as single streams from multiple clients may also end up on a single piece of media at the same time.
