Netware Recover help

Environment:

Netware client v7.2

Backup server: Red Hat Linux 5 O/S, Networker v7.6

Trying to restore from June 19, 2009. Already scanned in all the required volumes, used both scanner -ib and scanner -iv -S options. Then used 'nsrinfo -t' and the files showed up, but when trying to do the actual restore, cannot browse to that specific date. Tried both NetWare GUI and command line restore and still no luck. There is an open case eith EMC support regarging this and they seemed to be stumped too. Any other suggestions, tricks and possible resolutions?

thanks in advance.

Hi,

Even the scanner -i will help you to recover all the Index but it will take time to copy to the Networker server . Else if you want to recover the whole data from the tape you can Dump the whole tape to the Server by using scanner command .

we tried command line recover in NetWare using the SSID and the absolute/exact path from the nsrinfo command, but cancelled it because it's still restoring the entire saveset which is almost 1 TB from 4 volumes.

      ssid      name                               date       volume          size
2537316048 VOL1:                         06/19/2009 N10422         178 GB
2537316048 VOL1:                         06/19/2009 N10423         289 GB
2537316048 VOL1:                         06/19/2009 N10434         310 GB
2537316048 VOL1:                         06/19/2009 N10435         127 GB

Does you know the save set ID of the particular save set . You can restore only that particular save set by using the SSID .

HI,

It will restore about 1TB because if you check the o/p , for all the volumes the SSID are same . What is this volume number you have given . is that tape volume name or what ?

If you know the path/file name, you can recover the path/file using

recover -S

That will read the entire Save Set but only write '/complete/path/to/file' back to disk.

We already tried this command line recover using the SSID and the exact path and file name from the nsrinfo -t command and still it is restoring the entire saveset.

This is one of the issue also. It will be easy to just restore the entire saveset, but where will I dump a 1TB saveset temporarily then extract just 1 file. It will also probably take days to restore thie entire saveset if we even have the disk space. This is what we are trying to avoid that is why we spend days in scanning the all the tapes.

Did you tried with this comand

scanner -S | uasm -rv -m = .

Hope this will help you , for this no need of index and all , only thing need to know is the SSID of the save set .

Is NetWorker writing all data to disk or only reading the saveset.

Reading the entire saveset is normal behavior but not writing it on disk.

Yes, the recover process actually writes all the files from tapes to disk. We already tried all the switch/parameters on the netware client using command line recover but still the same result. We cannot even use the 'change time' option because when I changed the time using the time stamp on the tapes I scanned, the volume doesn't even exist, yet when you checked the savesets in those tapes, the SSID exist and the NetWare volume is showing up.

Is this command used on the backup server which is a Linux O/S? I tried scanner on the NetWare client and it doesn't exist.
