Networker 7.2 and Netapps DataOntap 7.2.3P1

I have been trying to get Networker to use the backup user from Netapps to do our NDMP backups. The account has all the proper rights, it is part of the backup operators group on the NetApp system. When I try to run the job it fails saying does not have the authority to do the backup. I have tried plaintext, challenge and all different combos for the password. I have tried the ecrypted ndmp password and none work. Is this a problem within Networker. I do not like using the NetApps root account to do the backups.

If you take a look at NetWorker Admin guide you can see that Netapp backup needs the root rights to do it.

You should try it with root's account.

It works fine with the root account. If you need to change the root password then you would have to go in and change this password in all your NDMP backups. If you can use a non root account this alleviates that headache. I am probably barking up the wrong tree, but it is supposed to work with a backup account.

This should work and many of our customer's use accounts other than the root account to do the NDMP backups as long as the y meet the criteria from the NetApp side....NetWorker does not care.

Just to clarify...on your NetApp you have:

1) create an account on the NetApp that has "Administrator" privileges (refer to section on managing local user account s in the introduction to storage system administration chapter of the NetApp System Administration Guide for steps on doing this).
2) From a console session on the NetApp run the command

ndmpd password username

3) It will return an ndmp password that is either 8 or 16 characters depending on what password length you have defined using the options ndmpd.password_length command.

4) In the NetWorker resource ndmp username and password fields, enter the username you generated the password for and in the password field enter the ndmp password that was generated on the NetApp using the above command. (It will be a strange alpha numeric and symbol string of characters.

Hope that helps.
