Networker Console GST Backup Group Hanging

Question

Networker Server 7.4 SP2 Build 431 OS: Win Server 2003 R2 SP2 GST db backup is hanging, when run by schedule or manually by command line. It just sits there saying 'contacting client' and eventually times out. All other backup groups complete ok with no issues. I have checked the LR_GST group schedule and group settings and all are correct- with sufficient media in the library for the backup. I saw a fix on Powerlink for a similar issue, but that fix was for a problem when you're backing up the GST with other backup groups and it gets overloaded but in my situation it hangs when no other backups are running. sr	mp\sg\LR_GST\sso.000006 is empty. I've tried closing the NMC console and running it manually and it's still hanging. Tried clearing tmp folder and restarting services as well. Does anyone know why this could be hanging? Is there a way to get more of a debugged output if it's not showing why this is happening? Thanks.

Restart gstd service/daemon and try manual save from CLI. If that works try again from GUI.

Hi, I've already tried restarting the GST renaming tmp folder and doing a manual save of the group from command line.Are you suggesting I do a lower level save from CLI??

Not sure what do you mean when you say 'lower level save'. You do it by calling savepsm command (see manual for details or run savepsm /?).

Don't know if this will help, but we had the same issue, and we stopped and started GST daemon, it did not make any difference. Since it was running on a UNIX workstation, by itself, we just rebooted, and it has been backing up just fine ever since.

Can you confirm that you have set the backup command to savepsm for the client? Also the console and backup server is the same here? And you set the database backup server in the console GUI? Have you tried entering the FQDN in the saveset field?

To get the debug output run the backup command with -D9 instead of -v - it will give a lot of output so be prepared!
