"scan needed" indicates a situation after a NW disaster recovery procedure. It shall remind the administrator that there is 'gap' between the status of the media index and the status quo.
In other words:
If you restore at 2300 a 'bootstrap' backup which has been created at 2000 there will be a gap of 3 hrs.
Backups created between 2000 and 2300 are still on the backup media but will be lost because the DR process will return the media db of an earlier timestamp. The admin shall scan the disks asap and re-add these save sets to the media index before the standard cleanup procedure will delete them physically from the disk backup media resulting in a backup loss.
What would cause this gap to happen? Is it because of a disconnect or something. I had never seen it before until last week.
Once I run the scan does it automatically add the save sets or is this a manual process? I will try to look it up but just asking in case you know off the top of your head.
