Networker on FreeBSD

Are their any efforts underway to run newer Networker clients on FreeBSD?

Alternatively, has anyone run one of the other clients under emulation?

Simple search on net (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=freebsd+legato&btnG=Search&meta=) refreshed my memory. It used to be Freal who did this version. You will find more links to FreeBSD site too, but I have no idea what version (emulation) is that.

You may wish to contact product management via your support and place a query. I know in the past market share was small and thus didn't influence much PM to develop such version on their own. Not sure how things stand today (even at those BSDish days I used to have things under OpenBSD mostly and backup was kind of the problem to me and ended up with something called Amanda or something like that - can't remember anymore).

I know about the client written by feral, but they quit supporting the client years ago and it is an old version (6.0.2)

I was hoping that someone would know of EMC plans for such a client or, perhaps, success running a different client under emulation -- the Linux one for example.

Not sure if it works, but you may wish to post the question here too:

It would be rather nice if someone from EMC would look at that section of forum to address questions like yours.

We are using Networker on several FreeBSD server. There was a time where it could be installed from ports. Now an installation it takes a little bit more time. But that is not a real problem, as log as it works with actual networker server. ;)
Worst case would be, if BSD-Client 6.0.2 wouldn't work with Networker 8.x.y. I think, there is no other backupsystem working with FreeBSD. Am I right?

It would be interessting if networker linux client works with FreeBSD and Linux Libs. Anyone tried it?

Regards Florian

I too NEED this to work! Changing the licensing scheme serverly crippled our backup capabilities. I have been trying off and on to get it to work again for quite sometime. The closest I have come is to get it to back up the chrooted linux compat area. Haven't been able to get it to back up the FreeBSD filesystem yet. If anyone has gotten further please let me know!

We are going to have to look at other backup solutions soon. This years payment for support was completely wasted. Sigh.
