Networker passive nodes backup failure??

Hi All,

We have created a separate group for taking backup of passive nodes in our existing environment. The backup of Windows Server 2008 passive node is failing everyday.

ERROR MESSAGE:

88224:save: The base volume for the path is unavailable or offline.  Please ensure all volumes are online for backup operations.

88222:save: Could not add for backup.

WINDOWS ROLES AND FEATURES: ERROR: VSS failed to add components in pre save, writer=System Writer: The system cannot find the file specified. (Win32 error 0x80070002)

We are using Networker Version 8.1.2.7 in our environment.

Please let me know how to take successful backup for the passive nodes.

Thanks Regards,

Sourangshu

Hi,

I'm guessing you are backing up a cluster? If so please use the virtual client to backup the cluster disks,

Thank you,

Carlos

Hi sodunku,

Please check the status VSS Writers.

vssadmin list writers

Verified the state.

diskshadow

list shadows all

if u have shadows delete all.

delete shadows all.

stop service networker

net stop nsrexecd

rename folder tmp of nw,

tmp to tmp.old

start service.

net start nsrexecd

running the backup again.

You cant Backup The Disk from The Passive Node, becasue it will not be able to read the Original Source ( unless it is a CSV ).

You only can do a Backup From the Cluster Virtual Name FQDN oonly do a DR Backup of the Passive node / manually select only thelocal drives in the Saveset

Hello,

We see this a lot on our clusters. This is due to services being installed on shared volumes, hence it is suppose to be included in the WINDOWS ROLES AND FEATURES: on all cluster nodes.

You can create a reg key ExcludeBinaryPaths and your backup will work again. See the kb:
