networker problem v7.3
Hi all,
My customer is using networker v7.3 and they have no intention for upgrading it. However, i still need to support it.
Here is the environment, there is only 1 solaris sunfire v210 server and a direct attached tape drive is used for backup, networker workgroup version is installed on this server. The only backup job is to run everyweek to backup this server itself to the tape drive.
Recently, the schedule weekly backup job cannot finished normally, i have already grabbed the daemon.log file and attached here.
Actually i am a newbie on networker and since this version is too old for emc support, do you guys have any idea of whats going on?
Thanks a lot.

Hi Kenny,
I think the main issue could be related to the pool configuration. You mentioned that there is a Direct attached device, however there is no further details about that device. Is it stand-alone device? is it an autochanger? How many drives do you have? Please note that you would need to have tapes available for pool Default and Pool Full.
What I suspect, based on the daemon.log, is that NetWorker is asking for a tape for either pool Default and/or Full, it keeps waiting and waiting and the sessions times out, so nsrmmd also times out and then backup cannot continue. When nsrexecd tries to start a new nsrmmd process it cannot because of the sessions timed out:
02/02/12 18:33:33 nsrexecd: GSS Legato authentication user session entry (warning): "User authentication session timed out and is now invalid.". Session number = 0:32c3, domain = , user name = root, NetWorker Instance Name = gldlms01
nsrexecd: SYSTEM error: An error occured when a client attempted to acquire credentials: error: "A daemon requested the information for a user session, but the user session was not found in the list of valid sessions" session number: 0:32c3, client ip address: 127.0.0.1, port number: 0, user id: (NONE).
nsrmmd #45: RPC error: Authentication error
My suggestion:
1.- Stop NetWorker services.
2.- Rename /nsr/tmp folder
3.- Start NetWorker services.
Also ensure that the pools are correctly configured including the bootstrap configuration, and also ensure that there are tapes/devices enough for this backup.
Thank you.
Carlos.
P.S.: You would definitely need to upgrade, I cannot really understand the reason behind not willing to upgrade other than saving some money

Hi Carlos,
Thanks for your advise and it is just a direct attached 1 tape drive. I have already disable the FULL pool and all the backup/bootstrap/index now go to the DEFAULT pool which is the original design.
Actually there is no design at all as this backup group only backup the networker server itself, as long as the backup is successful, customer is ok with it...
Thanks a lot.
