Hi, thanks for your quick reply. What i have to search for in the system log?

Some times not always in the log when shows this message:

'42506 5/15/2009 2:36:06 AM 2 0 0 2436 3160 0 respaldo nsrd media notice: dlt-s4 tape GEO152S4 on \\.\Tape0 is full
42506 5/15/2009 2:36:06 AM 2 0 0 2436 3160 0 respaldo nsrd media notice: dlt-s4 tape GEO152S4 used 11 GB of 781 GB capacity '

Before above message shows this one:

38758 5/15/2009 2:36:06 AM 2 0 0 2436 3160 0 respaldo nsrd media warning: \\.\Tape0 writing: No se puede ejecutar el proceso debido a un error del dispositivo de E/S., at file 12 record 15501

It is in spanish, it says that 'Can't execute process becouse of an error in I/O device'

I have also find this message i don´t know if it is related:

'0 5/14/2009 11:02:21 AM 2 0 0 2332 2008 0 respaldo (pid2008) Cannot set \\.\Tape0 block size to 131072. Maximum size configure is 65536. Please modify your SCSI configuration to allow transfers of at least 131072 (search for the MaximumSGList registry parameter) '

and

'42506 5/18/2009 1:43:07 PM 2 0 0 2436 3160 0 respaldo nsrd media notice: Volume "GEO158S4" on device "\\.\Tape0": Block size is 32768 bytes not 65536 bytes. Verify the device configuration. Tape positioning by record is disabled.'

Regards.

It's probably driver or HW issue. In log check if you have any I/O errors when this happens and also check system log.

Sorry i did not mention the S.0, the backup server is using Windows 2000 Server SP4.

I think i will try to upgrade drives drivers and if that dont resolve the problem i will change the HBA.

More ideas are welcome. Thanks.

I ahve no clue what is your OS, but with SP1 for 2003 you were limited to 64KB... that was fixed later with patch or newer SPs.

What log really says is that you have I/O error and because of that I/O error your tape is marked full. Now, I/O error is given by driver and why does the driver give I/O error can't be seen from here. It might so many things. You may check event log to see if you get anything more. Also check if you have latest drivers and see if library is reporting any errors as well.

With an I/O error it is always sensible to check your hardware - ensure all cards and cables are correctly seated and there is no visible damage. Check your hardware is supported and all drivers are current. You could also use NT backup to verify whether or not the problem is at the O/S level or lower...

Also check the removable storage service . It should be stopped & disabled. Also try after clening the drive heads.
