SQL 2012 AlwaysON Availability Groups Backup with NMM 2.4
Hi there
Wee need to backup Databases on a SQL 2012 Always On Availability Group.
With NMM 2.4, the Availability Groups from SQL 2012 are supported, but i can 't find a Dokumentation for setup the backup.
We use following Products:
Database Server:SQL2012 Enterprise Edition
OS: Windows 2008R
Hypervisor: VMWARE vSPhere 5.1
I installed the NMM 2.4 Client on the VM's and try to backup the model Database.
Save set: MSSQL:model
We configured the Networker Client with the following command:
nsrsqlsv -A Servername
Theres a error when i do the backup:

Is there somewhere a step by step Dokumentation how we can configure SQL2012 Backups ?

Umraan, can you please check on which account runs the service „NetWorker Remote Exec Service” on your SQL Server ?

If you are an administrator on the client server then try testing with your own admin account
And don’t specify a database, use the MSSQL: save set to test if all backups fail or succeed

Can you try and run the backup from the client side using the NMSQL gui and see what happens
Also check if both servers can see each other, do a reverse lookup from both ends

If i run with Remote Access User configured, there is this error:
Cannot run savefs: A required privilege is not held by the client.
srv01536.intmain.introot.bkw-fmb.ch:savefs: retried 1 times.
If I left this field blank, it take longer to the error:

Ok then try to uninstall NMM 2.4 and NetWorker and then re-install NetWorker and NMM again
Also do you Have a NMM or NMSQL license to backup the database ?

I did not see that last error you posted. - 38006:(pid 4700):Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server .
I’ve seen that error before and in most cases SQL is not online, please check if all SQL instances are online – then retry the backup

obesa,
I had a similar issue when I set up our SQL2012 DAG environment.
You cannot use the remote user field as it will not get passed correctly.
Change the Log On of the nsrexecd service to an account with SQL SA permissions and Admin rights on the box. This will allow the backups to run. The only issue I have seen from this in my environment is that because or group policies I need to re-enter the password to bring up the service after a reboot.

Dear Carlos,
I am using networker server 8.0.2.6 and client has nsr 8.0.3.2 with win2k8 R2, NMM 2.4.1 build192, SQL 2012.
The server is in DMZ zone, ports 7936-9936 are open bi-directionally, I am trying to backup SQL2012 from the server but is failing, file level backup via snapshot is working fine, backup taken by NMSQL from client side is also working fine, but it is giving error when it is scheduled from the server ' Cannot run savefs: The requested operation requires elevation.' Please note I have mentioned the username and password as required for SQL 2012 client resource.
While searching for the related errors on the forum I came across your post, I ran the savegrp command as suggested and below is the output, could you please suggest what is going wrong.

Did you try to disable UAC?

I just tried with changing the logon accounts of nsrexecd and nsrpsd from 'local system' to a account which has local admin and domain admin privilege, this time the error was 'Cannot run savefs: A required privilege is not held by the client'.
Next I am going to disable UAC, i am scheduling the restart......i will keep you posted.
One quick question - why is UAC not affecting client-initiated NMSQL backups ?

Hrvjoe,
Yes, I missed disabling UAC but the I am able to take backups via NMSQL on clinet.
In addition to that I will also try changing the log on account and then see what happens next.

When you run client initiated backup, are you logged as user running services? The error itself seems to indicate UAC thingy so it is worth trying.
