Reloading Windows client with same name and ip

Question

HI, I am running 7.3 server and clients in a Windows network. Backups have been running ok. I recently had a failed upgrade attempt when trying to bring a client from Windows 2000 server to 2003 server. I had to reload the client server fresh. For various reasons I need the name and IP address of the client server to stay the same. If I reload the NW client on the fresh 2003 install and try a backup, will it pickup the previous client configurations and schedules from the NW server based on the name being the same or is there more to it? I really don't need the previous backups so deleting and recreating the client resource is OK too. I backed up the critical data separately. What is the best way to get this client back into the server schedule? Thanks,

Just leave the client resources as is on the NW server. Upgrade your client, reinstall NW client and test the backup. Especially if Hostname & IP have not changed, there should not be a problem.

If you are OK with losing the data you backed up for this client, you can opt to delete it and re-create and if you think you might need the backed up data, note the client Id of the client, delete it and while recreating use the client ID you noted down.

Normally, you should not be required to do anything else but simply continue backups after upgrading OS & reinstalling NW client. Just ensure your host files & DNS have the correct entries.

Worked just as you said. I was even able to recover the original data without having to go to my secondary backups. ACLs and all!Thanks for the help.
