Restore browsing shows two different drive letters for same drive

When browsing a backup of a Windows 2008 SP1 server, sometimes I see the browse results assigned to two different drive letters, although the data that was backed up comes only from the D: drive. I.e., I see some files assigned to an E: drive, although the server does not have an E: hard drive. The only E: drive is a DVD reader. The folder structure is very similar for the D: and E: browse results. It is as if some of the D: drive data was assigned to the E: drive letter instead of the D: drive. There has been no drive letter changing or rebuilding of the disks on this server. We are using Networker 7.6.5. The client save set configuration is C:\, D:\.

Hi,

Some quick question for going further -

- Is this scenario for everyday backup or you are getting such output only for few specific date backup?

- What save set you are using?

- Are  you using any backup command in your client entry? (you can provide the entire client resource details)

- Is the client name and IP available in that server is matching?

Its strange behavior, but just want to confirm one thing do you have any old retained backup for E:, if you take a fresh backup also in c: and d: will  it create any entry in media database. How many backup you can find in mminfo using E:

New version of Networker User or for the main Networker installation? If main, I would have to get the corporate folks to update the server, which is running Windows 2003. Not sure if a newer version of Networker would run on that OS.

The problem of a split between two drive letters, one of which points to the DVD reader, looks to have started about 10 months ago. Prior to that, all backups showed the E: drive (DVD reader), instead of the D: drive. Now they are split between the two drive letters. It will split a folder tree into two parts, with some subfolders on the D: drive and the rest on the E: drive. The folder that gets split is not a root folder either, but down a few levels from the root.

The D:\ drive is actually an array and not just a single disk.

I have seen this only for one specific server, but not on every backup that was made of that server. The situation began

about 10 months ago and continues to this day. Prior to 10 months ago, the Networker User display shows a drive E: with all the data for what is actually drive D:

In my original post I gave the save set as C:\, D:\.

No additional backup commands in the configuration.

Not sure what you are asking about the IP and name. The connection is made using a host file

with the client name and IP specifics designated in the host file.

There should not be any for E:, since it is a DVD drive and the save set has always been C:\, D:\.

Will check and get back to you.

I'm referring to client code.
