Restore SQL DB to a new server

I am trying to do a test restore of the Northwinds DB from our old SQL 2000 server to our new SQL 2008 server. This is in preparation for moving our large datawarehouse SQL DB. Needless to say I am running into all kinds of problems.

When running the SQL Restore from the SQL Module on the new server, the list of clients to restore does not include the client name that I need, and if I try to do a save set restore it says I am not logged in as the supervisor.

There are no databases created on the new server at this time, just a standard new SQL 2008 installation.

Thanks

You need to have the enw server in the Remote Access list of the client resource of the existing server like administrator@newserver in the Remote Access list of oldserver's client resource.

Do you have MS article which says that is possible?

You might need to create a client resource for the client you want to restore to. Create a dummy client resource and that should fix your problem of not being able to see your destination client in the list of client to restore to. Remember to set up the permissions mentioned in the thread.
