RPC send operation failed
Hi All,
As we migrated from Win2003 to Win2008/2012 servers, we also upgraded Networker from 7.2 to 8.1.1.7 (both client and server are all the same)
Having consistent issues with client server errors at random times during the save process. We have rarely been able to perform a full backup in the last month.
The common theme of the error looks like the following - 90% of the time failing on the HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy device, and always at around the 2-3 minute mark on a saveset.
76677:save: RPC send operation failed; errno = An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
74209:save: Quit signal received.
99123:save: Handling an abort while processing Windows backup.
76677:save: RPC send operation failed; errno = An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
5203:save: save failed on \\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy38\Program Files\Common Files\VMware\Drivers\wddm_video\vm3dgl.dll
74209:save: Quit signal received.
99123:save: Handling an abort while processing Windows backup.
99123:save: Handling an abort while processing Windows backup.
The Networker server is able to backup itself with no issues, ruling out any device problems. Some smaller drives on the remote servers are backed up successfully if they are completed within a minute or so.
I have looked at all of the various posts looking at tcp timeouts etc. in addition I can confirm that for each client: -
ping is successful
nslookup is successful
rpcinfo is listing all programs and ports
nsradmin successfully connects to client
Any help appreciated!!!

Thanks for all the prompt replies - I believe I have found the cause of the issue
Shortly after installation and configuration of Networker, I had turned on NIC Teaming (within Win Server 2012) on the Networker Server.
I have just turned NIC Teaming off, and successfully backed up 2 of our clients in full.
Ill need to get our backups running consistently, and then hopefully I can get back to configuring NIC teaming without the issues in Networker! Ill try to remember to post an update.

Terex,
Are you running multiple instances of the same client. For example when your weekly backups is still not completed the daily instance kicks in?

May i suggest you use the NW Health Check Tool (HCT), available from support.

Do you have AV running on that box?

Only 1 instance of the client running, but with these issues I have reverted to running manually as I try to identify the problem so there is no overlap.
No AV running on any server or client, and firewall is turned off on all as well. There doesnt seem to be anything blocking the transmissions, as client wizards work to set up the clients and smaller drives are backing up in full if under 2 minutes.
