scanner command and tape errors

Hi,

I am actually scanning in old tapes using an old DLT tapedrive. My scanner command ends sometimes with a hardware error on the tape. Is there a way to tell the scanner command to continue scanning and searching for readable information ?

I'm not aware of any, though you could try scanning from a particular file and record if it always fails in one place. The best thing to do is to try to address the cause of failure.

Hi,

The problem is that I want to restore the whole tape and then re-backup it on a LTO tape. So, I need everything (or as much as possible) of the data on the tape.

I already cleaned the tapedrive several times but that did not really help.

I also tried to scan the tapes not using the local DLT in the server but the DLT of my Jukebox. But this also give the same / similar problems.

Regards,

Johan

Without knowing what the errors you are getting are, I would guess you may have some damage to the media itself. Have you seen this problem on just one tapes or multiple? Have you been storing the tapes in a clean dry environment?
