Sounds like you may need to update the hosts files on the clients because it seems as though they are expecting the Networker Server to be the old one. May have to delete and reinstall devices too
Could try upgrade the client software one at a time and make sure it knows which server to use

First thing first, delete all the peer information from the backup server and also on the NMC server and try again.
