Sharepoint 2013 backup getting failed

Hello Pravin,

When you say 2 node farm, do you mean 2 WFE servers plus the SQL server of just 2 nodes, one hosting the SQL DB's.

First question, did you register the WSS writer in all the WFE servers?

Did you run from one of the WFE server the command to retrieve all the valid savesets and dependencies?

Have you checked the Application event logs? There you will find some SharePoint error messages that will point you in the right direction, in case the dependency is not correctly configured in SharePoint.

2 Node farm means one SQL and other Sharepoint server with all roles on one server.

WSS writer is registered and also checked the valid savesets.

As I check application event logs I found below three errors after iitializing backup.

NMM initialization of VSS writers has completed. Event id : 1

The object identifier does not represent a valid object. . Event id :1

NMM backup failed to complete successfully. Event id:1

Hi Pravin,

Actually what you should look is for any "non-NMM" related errors, which could be indicating problems with SharePoint farm configuration. Did you find any?

Can you please attach the output of the following command, ran from WFE server?:

nsrsnap_vss_save -v -?

Also if we could have the nmm.raw would be nice.

Did you use Client Wizard to create this WFE server?

I still see some configuration issues, as if the dependencies were not configured correctly:

A remote dependency has been detected.  Please create a client entry on the NetWorker server for the remote component(s) and ensure a full backup has been performed.

This could be also a client ID issue, or name resolution issue.

Try using the client wizard (if you didn't already) and let us know the results.

Below is the error message when I used client configuration wizard.

Additionaly the Sharepoint server have two more ip addresses and two more different aliases registered to each ip address in DNS server. Tried adding those aliases to the client properties however no luck.

We found below Error on sharepoint server event viewer

NMM: Backup user does not have sufficient permissions to access the SharePoint Farm

Below rights have already been provided,

Add-SPShellAdmin -UserName " \ $"

SQL Server system dbcreator, public, and sysadmin permissions to DOMAIN\HOSTNAME$

Hostname : SharePoint server hostname.

I don't have clue which rights more it requires.

Can you tell me WSS Writer services is running under system user or any specific user? Try running it with farm admin account.

You need to grant the SYSTEM user with the SQL permissions:

dbcreator

public

securityadmin

sysadmin

We have been recieving a lot of such failures where were identified later on to be because of name resolution and admin permissions:

You can try below steps:

• Chek is your farm admin is a part of local administrator groups on the system, if not add it
• Can you confirm if "kchjssdb" is also a client, and if this is added as a member in group which runs Backup
• Check if OSearch15 service is running with farm admin account

Thanks for the response.

The NMM.raw file you are referring is quite older however we did refresh of the sharepoint and database system and created brand new set up as there were some issues on sharepoint front. However the issue remains same. I am uploading new logs.

Answers for your question.

1.) Farm admin is part of local administrators.
