SnapImage anyone?
So,
I thought I'd ask if anyone out here is familiar with SnapImage and if they could give me their thoughts on it.
Host based CoW snapshots that relieve greatly the challenge with backing up high density file systems. Million of files in minutes or even seconds...

Do you have any news on this. Are we wrong, or will it be incorporated in the next release. ( a rumor going round here.)

ok, here I go....
There is a new update to SI we are working on. We are focusing on updating for OSs that are currently supported and including things like true 64-bit support. This will get rid of the 2TB volume limit. Also we are looking at removing the requirment for a raw cache. This, as well as other enhancments, will make the product much easier to install and configure.
This is the foundation work we are doing so that we can continue enhancing this valuable solution in an ongoing fashion, rahter than on a 3 year cycle!
I really do like all the input I can get around this to help the future of SnapImage-- a product dear to my heart that many others on this list will attest to, (based on hallway conversations in Santa Clara).
Thansk all!

Hello Steven!
I’m really glad that EMC is spending some time and effort on SI. To my understanding SI is supporting American characters. The problem is that American character set is not enough in a lot of countries. In Sweden and many other countries in Europe we need support for non-American characters. Please include non-American character support!Regards, Jonas

Hi!
In the latest RN for SnapImage 2.5 the following can be read at page 11 under Known problems and limitations.
“The SnapImage software does not support filenames, directory structures, or drive identifiers that include non-English characters. If a backup contains file or directory names with non-English characters, those files and directories are not properly restored.”
Note: Data within files can include non-English characters. SnapImage fully supports non-ASCII filenames. It does not yet support double-byte characters.
The above text is not 100% clear to me. It both says Yes and No to filenames containing åäö, non-ASCII filenames both not double byte characters.
So, are SI 2.5 supporting filenames and directory structures containing åäö, non-ASCII characters?
