Tape problems

Hello all,

I'm having problems with the tapes of a Legato Networker 7.3 server... they're Ultrium-3 tapes... the backup task start correctly, but when the tape saves 60GB-80GB; the system marks the tape as full, and cannot save any more data on it...!!!

Thanks in advance...

Regards,

Xavi.

Along with suggested I would check for any updates related to drivers/firmware of the drive too.

As for NW, upgrade to 7.3.1.

As for error, do you see anything else at that time in system logs (and SAN logs if drives are attached via SAN).

Hi...

There's a variation in the amount of data... sometimes are 50GB, sometimes are 80GB...and I can see any specific error about this or any other matter... the tapes are just being marked full prematurely...

And yes, the tapes are LTO-3 (400GB-800GB)... ;)

Any ideas?

Thanks...

Xavier - could you post the message you are seeing in the daemon.log prior to the tapes being marked full?

Is this a consistent error or is there a variation in the amount of data written? You could try getting some info out with mminfo -m to verify this.

Also, are you seeing any errors and the tapes are being marked full prematurely.

Another thing - the drives are LTO3 but are the tapes also? LTO1 will be 100GB uncompressed...

What OS is that (2003 SP1 perhasp)?. Did you try manually to position on fn75 rn 2793? Also, since this is LTO-3 I would check if you have latest set of drivers and drive firmware.

This is looking like an issue with hardware - it could be a faulty drive, a config issue, drivers etc.

You must change your OS's block size.
Now your OS identify the tape driver's block size is 32K.But Networker label the tape with 64K.So your tape is not same with os and networker server.
OS's tape block size can be change with OS system tool, and networker server's block size can be change with Networker start script. For example:
you can vi start script: /etc/init.d/networker,add:
NSR_DEV_BLOCK_SIZE_<tape type>=64(unit is Kbyte)
export NSR_DEV_BLOCK_SIZE_<tape type>

Registry or some other setting (if related to some other product other than OS). Check MS and EMC KB on that.

Thanks.
