Target session in Networker 8

Hi All, the target session in networker 8 by default is 4. I understand that in 7.6.1 and onwards the default target session is 1. How is it be beneficial to have a target session of 4 in networker 8. How will the save session distribution be in networker 8 with target session being 4 and different from networker 7.6.1

I believe for Data Domain devices it is 6 in NW8.  I just configured one server to address some network labyrinth I had with 8.0.0.7 and added DD devices with default values of 6 sessions - I see no issues.

What you described is not correct as nw should use second aftd as soon as 1 session occupies first aftd... and so on in round robin until 32 devices are not feeling each device (you will never see that due to server parallelism).

We are looking for a disk based solution and AFTD in particular.

For 7.6.1 with target session 1 and max session 32, one AFTD device will be looked at by networker to write 32 sessions, once networker figures out that there are more than 32 sessions coming in then another AFTD device will be used to write that 33rd session.

I wanted to understand with 4 as target session in networker 8 how  will the sessions be multiplexed (what calculation) and what may be the logic behind having 4 target session.

This may entirely depend on what is your target storage and how it is used.
