The device is not connected - What is causing this?

Networker (7.3) seems to lose its connection to one of its two tape drives. Once this happens all the subsequent backups fails. This has happened several times and it is not isolated to one specific drive. What would cause this? The tape drive hardware seems to fine.
* Could it be the tape device configuration in Networker? The device media is set to LTO Ultrium but we are using LTO Ultirum-4 tapes.
* Could it be that the compression is handeled by the tape unit not networker?
*Could it be an intermittent hardware problem?
Below is the log entry when the problem occurted:

the first thing that comes to my mind is what is 7.3 release: upgrade to 7.3.4 at the earliest OR 7.4.4. Several 7.3 releases have been having such library/media errors especially if it is 7.3 native.

Usually this sort of problem was related to driver in the past.

Early versions of the nsrlcpd tended to be a little unreliable so I would suggest you upgrade to a more up-to-date version. However that affects the libraries and this seems to be an effect on tape drives only. Also I do not have a 7.3 hardware compatibility list handy but were LTO4 drives supported by 7.3?

From HW compatibility point of view 7.3.x will work with LTO4 even if media type would not exist in list of known devices; you could present it as LTO3 and it would work fine.

Look @ the deamon.raw file in your storage node if you have errors pertaining to nsrlcpd.

Hi,

There was a problem with 7.3 and even with 7.4.2 related witht he libraries , Kindly update the 7.3 to 7.4.4 , its a stable version and problem has been resolved in the 7.4.4 . Update and revert back.
