Two week backup schedule for different machines

Up until now I have been backing up all servers over the weekend on adv_file, which are then cloned to tape to be taken offsite on the Tuesday.  As time has passed the amount of data being backed up simply can't be backed up and cloned during the weekend window.

I therefore wanted to split the machines into two batches, a Week1 and Week2.  Roughly half the machines would be put into group Week1 and the others into Week2.  The plan would then be that a full backup and clone of Week1 plus a differential clone of Week2 would go offsite one week, with a full backup and clone of Week2 plus a differential clone of Week1 going offsite the second week and so on.  So, basically a full group clone every other week is the goal..

My problem is that I can't see how to set this up in Networker (7.4.5).  Weekly schedule doesn't allow it and monthly doesn't allow it either - or am I missing something?  I don't want to move to monthly as the backups must always take place at the weekend.

Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction with this - basically making a group clone every other week!

I hope I have explained this adequately!

Regards!

Hi Stewart,

you can build your schedules with the overwright option.

Right click on any schedule and deselect "Show schedule as calendar".

Then you can provide a overwright like: 'full 1 sat every month' or 'full sat every two week'.

You may want to build a monthly schedule with level at all weekends and overwright those weekends you need a full backup.

Thanks, Peter - that was spot on.  I didn't know you could do that with overrides and once you get the syntax right it works like a charm.  I created a weekly full on Friday with '9 fri every two weeks' in the override and a quick look at the calendar view shows me that this gives me exactly what I was looking for.

Now I'll go and re-assign all the clients/groups!

Thanks again!

Regards, Stewart.
