Unit Attention Bus reset

When backups are running I get a message "nsrd: Jukebox 'Scalar100-A' failed: Unit Attention Bus reset" on our Scalar 100. The server is SCSI connected to a Linux server. After this message all of the tapes which are currently writing are marked as full and the jukebox locks the mailbox. The only way to free the mailbox on the jukebox is to power cycle the jukebox.

Has anyone encountered similar problems?

Probably there was SCSI bus reset. Could be related to almost anything - SCSI card, SCSI cable, broken pin on connector, broken drive, etc. In the past troubleshooting SCSI errors was really pain and end up in people replacing almost everything until they found what was wrong.

With Linux there is also something else in game - issues like this could be triggered by faulty version of kernel.

Additional issues not related to above listed problems could be related to bad firmware of drives/jukebox.

The best approach would be to test this by isolating part by part and seeing at which point it works and at which does not.

Check your hardware - most of the time that is what the issue will be. Check everything is connected up okay and no cables have been knocked loose (or damaged) or anything like that. You may get to a situation where you will need to swap out components piece by piece until you locate whatever has failed.

I have had some similiar issues on other tape drives, OS' and software and that usually is the case. I was hoping for the best.

Thanks.
