I have a few questions upgrading from Networker 8.0 to the latest version. I am doing the job on Weds. and I have done an upgrade of Networker before and it ended up setting the backups on the Data Domain to expire. I know I have to do the uninstall first, and I am going to start with the server/storage node since they are the same. My plan is to:
1. Backup the bootstrap
2. Uninstall the old Networker software using the windows uninstall in control panel
3. Install the new software to the same path
4. Check the NMC to ensure that the settings are still there
5. Check Data Domain to make sure the data is still there
Or is it better to use the Networker installer to un-install the old networker software?
Am I missing anything? Do I need to re-name the old Networker folders at all or will the re-install keep the necessary folders?
My only other question is that ever since daylight savings time, the Networker is starting it's backups an hour earlier. Is this something with the server or is there a time setting within Networker that I am missing?
Hrvolje, Thanks for the response. I figured it was based off time on the server but the time on the server is correct. I'll have to dig around some more.
As for the un-install, will that get rid of the NMC folders? Or will it keep them and just use those when doing the re-install? I don't want to have to re-set up the NMC, or have to go through the mmrecov process.
Don’t forget the NetWorker Procedure Generator is available to give instructions for install and upgrade of software and includes any OS tuning/patches we recommend also – it should make your job a lot easier.
Both will use msinstaller so it does not matter how you do it. NetWorker is using time on system so when that time changes, then times in NW are affected too. They only affect group start times meaning you may see few groups kicking in again or reporting already running - no big deal.
